Cameron Green came and took well-set batter Ollie Pope's wicket on Day 1 of the first match of The Ashes 2025-26 in front of his home crowd.

On the last ball of Green's first over of the day, Pope was gone for an LBW. The England batter took a review, but the ultimate decision went in for the home team, Australia, at Perth. Before the sixth delivery of the 20th over of the innings, Pope and Harry Brook were rotating strike with ease. They had already accumulated 10 runs from the over before the fall of the vital wicket.

Along with the pace bowling all-rounder Cameron Green, credit also goes to Australia's stand-in skipper Steve Smith, who combined their bowlers well. Mitchell Starc emerged as the main weapon for the Aussies, as he single-handedly cleared up the top batting order of England.

Cameron Green takes the wicket of Ollie Pope

After the dismissals of Zak Crawley (0), Ben Duckett (21), and Joe Root (0), the touring team started to gain some momentum through the partnership of Pope and Brook. Together they stitched a partnership of 55 out of 67. Pope went back to the hut after making a confident 46 off 58 with 4 boundaries.

Green noticed the right-handed batter was about to move across the crease and delivered a full and straight delivery, angling into the leg stump line. The England batter by then had already shuffled down the ground to play a flick. The delivery with a 134.2 km/h breeze passed the bat and hit the front pad directly. The umpire had no doubt to declare it out, an LBW. Ollie Pope took a review, but the decision remained unchanged. England lost their 4th batter for 94 on the scoreboard.
