“Captain Gill returns…” – Fans react after Shubman Gill brings up fifty in DC vs GT IPL 2026 clash
GT captain Shubman Gill completed a useful 50 runs in 33 balls during the first innings of the IPL 2026 match 14, DC vs GT.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill returned to the game with a strong half-century, as his batting played an important role in his team's first win of the IPL 2026. Gill scored a 33-ball fifty to play the impressive knock of 70 runs.
The IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans started the IPL 2026 poorly, as they lost their first two matches of the season. While they lost against the hosts Punjab Kings in their season opener by three wickets, Rajasthan Royals defeated Titans at their home by six runs.
Shubman Gill led Titans in their first match of the season, where the right-handed batter scored 39 off 27 balls. Meanwhile, Gill missed the second game against the Rajasthan Royals at home due to a neck injury, while Rashid Khan took the leadership role. However, Gill returned to the Titans' third game of the season, which was against the hosts Delhi Capitals, who won their first two matches of the season.
Under pressure Gujarat Titans get strong start
After Delhi Capitals chose to field first, although GT opener Sai Sudarshan (12) was dismissed cheaply in the third over, another opener and skipper Shubman Gill provided a strong start for GT along with the no.3 batter Jos Buttler. Buttler and Gill had a 60-run partnership for the second wicket in just 5,2 overs, where Buttler scored 52 off 27 balls.

Shubman Gill scores first T20 fifty of 2026
Gill and Washington Sundar had a 104-run partnership for the third wicket, as both scored 50s. Skipper Gill scored 70 runs off 45 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes, as his long batting secured GT's 200+ first innings total. While Sundar also scored 55 off 32 balls, they scored 210/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi Capitals scored 209/8 in 20 overs, as GT claimed their first win of the season by just one run.
It was Shubman Gill's first T20 fifty in 2026. In fact, previously, Gill played a 50+ knock in a T20 match in May 2025, when they faced the hosts Delhi Capitals. In that game, Gill scored a match-winning 93 not out off 53 balls, as the visitors chased down the 200-run target in 19 overs without losing any wickets.
