An unorthodox shot from Joe Root, who is mostly known for his classical batting in Test matches. The batter, who knows the basics well enough, can play fancy shots too, practically proved by Joe Root during The Hundred 2025 match between London Spirit and Trent Rockets.

Against the fast bowler Luke Wood, Root played a ramp shot for a boundary. Trent Rockets was chasing a target of 163 in the second innings of the 100-ball match. The chasing team has no option but to go big from the beginning of the run chase. Root came to open the innings with Tom Banton. Both batters were batting well together, but they needed to rotate the strike with more quickness. So, Joe decided to try something fancy.

When Trent Rockets needed 142 runs to win in 82 balls, the star England batsman was up against Luke Wood. The pacer delivered a slower ball, guided towards the middle stump. Root got plenty of time to position himself perfectly for a ramp shot. The right-handed batsman sent the ball over the third-man region for a boundary. Root tried everything to play a long innings, but Liam Dawson crushed his dream. Root departed for 27 off 24.

Rockets failed to hold their momentum 

London Spirit won the game against Trent Rockets by 21 runs. Another England international, Jamie Smith, was the man of the match, who played a 52-run innings against 34 deliveries for London. Kane Williamson, London Spirit skipper, scored 45 runs to register 162 in the first innings, which proved enough to outclass the Trent Rockets.

Trent started the run chase well, but a middle-order batting collapse caused them the defeat. Banton got 46, and Root 27, as the opening batters. In the middle order, only Marcus Stoinis batted significantly to score 35 runs on the scoreboard.
