The former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif, believes that Rohit Sharma’s biggest Test of the upcoming 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be to complete 600-plus runs in the whole season. He is the most successful captain in the history of the league, but has yet to win an orange cap in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma is currently the second leading run-getter of the IPL with 7046 runs in 267 innings at an average of 29.73 and a strike rate of 132.09 with the help of two centuries and 47 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 109 runs.

“We talk about Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, but Rohit Sharma has not scored 700-800 runs in a season. In the IPL, he gets points for captaincy and experience, but when you compare him with Virat Kohli or some other batter, he doesn't score 600-700 runs. He scores in one or two matches and becomes the Man of the Match.Kaif expressed in a video that he shared on his YouTube channel.

Mohammad Kaif makes massive statement on Rohit Sharma in comparison with Virat Kohli

Kohli tops the chart of the leading run-scorers in the history of the IPL. The right-handed batter has notched up 8661 runs in 259 innings at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 132.85 with the help of eight centuries and 63 fifties at the best score of unbeaten 113 runs.

“So, the biggest test for him this time is to cross the 500-run or 600-run mark. Sai Sudharsan scored 750 runs this time. So, Rohit Sharma would also want to score around 600 runs because he has gotten lean and is in good form. He will be very hungry for runs in this IPL.Kaif addressed in the same video.

Rohit, the 38-year-old, bagged 418 runs in the last season in 2025 at an average of around 30 with a strike rate of 150, thanks to four fifties. Since 2019, the former Indian captain has crossed the 300-run mark in every edition of the tournament.
