CPL 2025, Match 01: St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Antigua and Barbuda Falcons match highlights and scorecard

The 13th season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2025 started on August 14 at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts, where the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots met the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for the opening clash. The home side captain, Jason Holder, won the toss and decided to bat first on a slow surface.

Patriots were fully consisted of Pakistan bowlers, Abbas Afridi and Naseem Shah, while two Afghanistan bowlers, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Waqar Salamkheli, also made their way into the playing eleven. Antigua was under the leadership of Imad Wasim as Allah Ghazanfar, Shakib Al Hasan, and Bevon Jacobs made it into the side.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons bundled out for 121

The tourists kept losing wickets at regular intervals from the start of the innings as they lost three wickets inside the first six overs. The wicket-keeper batter, Jewel Andrew, got a three-ball duck, while Rahkeem Cornwall got three runs.

The only contribution in the batting line-up came from Karima Gore, who smashed 61 runs in 34 deliveries, with the help of eight boundaries and a couple of sixes at a strike rate of nearly 180. The middle-order couldn’t do much as they fell like a pack of cards for 121 in 17.1 overs.

Every bowler picked up wickets apart from Afridi. Waqar picked up four wickets for 22 runs in four overs, while Farooqui and Naseem bagged two wickets each.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots make comfortable chase in 15 overs

The left-handed opening batter of the home side, Evin Lewis, drilled 25 runs in 13 balls at a strike rate of almost 200 with four boundaries and one six. They also kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they found themselves four down at the halfway mark.

Alick Athanaze smacked an unbeaten 37 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 132.14 with three fours and two sixes while captain Holder remained undefeated on 18 runs to complete the five-wicket victory with five overs to spare.
