During the ninth encounter of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons locked horns with the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The touring captain, Imran Tahir, won the toss and decided to bat first on a surface they expect to get slow in the second innings.

Both sides retained their playing eleven from the previous fixture, as both had specialist leg-spinners in the eleven. Guyana was confident after a superb batting performance from their top order in the last game.

Guyana Amazon Warriors fire their way to 211/3

Ben McDermott couldn’t do much for his eight runs, while the other opening batter, Kevlon Anderson, struggled to get going for his 22 runs in 25 balls. But the biggest contribution came from the 106-run partnership between the wicket-keeper, Shai Hope, and Shimron Hetmyer for the third wicket. Hope scored 82 runs in just 54 balls at a strike rate of 151.85, with the help of six boundaries and five sixes.

On the other hand, the southpaw, Hetmyer, remained unbeaten on 65 runs in 26 balls at a strike rate of 250, thanks to five boundaries and as many sixes. Later, the firepower came from Romario Shepherd, who drilled 25 runs in eight balls for two sixes and two fours to post 211/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Imran Tahir’s 5-fer bundle out hosts for 128 to earn huge victory

It was an average batting performance from the Imad Wasim-led side. Karima Gore cracked 31 runs in 14 balls at a strike rate of 221.43, with the help of three boundaries and one six. Fabian Allen got 22 runs in 20 balls, but none of those were enough to get them close to the target.

Tahir, the 46-year-old veteran leg-spinner, picked up five wickets in his four overs for 21 runs at an economy rate of 5.20, including a maiden. Both Dwaine Pretorius and Shepherd picked up two wickets each to bundle out the home side for 128 runs in 15.2 overs to earn a huge victory by 83 runs.
