There was considerable hype surrounding the India-Pakistan clash ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Many former Pakistani cricketers and fans were claiming that their team would defeat India this time, but they were disappointed once again. India comfortably defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in Colombo on Sunday (February 15) in the 27th match of the ongoing edition of the tournament. This is also India's biggest win by run margin against Pakistan in a T20I.

In the match played at R Premdasa, India batted first and scored 175/7 in 20 overs, to which Pakistan's entire team was bowled out for 114 in 18 overs. After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bowl first, which seemed to be the right decision when Indian opener Abhishek Sharma got out in the very first over. However, Ishan Kishan, batting at the other end, played aggressively and scored a magnificent 77 runs off 40 balls. Following that, Tilak Varma (25) and captain Suryakumar Yadav (32) couldn’t score runs quickly, but Shivam Dube helped India post a bigger total by scoring 27 runs off 17 balls at the end.

Pakistan, in their chase, faced trouble from the very beginning and lost four crucial wickets during the powerplay. The fall of wickets continued, preventing Pakistan from completing their full quota of overs. Usman Khan scored 44 runs off 34 balls, and Shaheen Shah Afridi remained unbeaten on 23, reducing the margin of defeat to some extent.
