Dewald Brevis was roped in by Chennai Super Kings ahead of Indian Premier League 2025. The South Africa batter played six games for CSK and scored 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 laced with two half centuries. Brevis, who came as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, provided a huge boost to depleting batting line up of CSK.

But former India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin had commented that Brevis was given extra buck as he came at the base price of 75 lakh and was not justifiable. Now when the South African scored a 22 ball fifty against Australia in a T20 game, Ashwin has clarified his statement and said that his statements were twisted and misinterpreted.

“I just want to say this. I focus more on cricket rather than the chatter on social media. We make videos on YouTube to give our opinions. People who watch our videos don’t do any wrongdoing. However, those who don’t watch can twist the statements according to their whims and fancies. In today's world, news can be made based on one statement or headline,” Ashwin said on his Hindi YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat.

“The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. The decision to bring him on board is very good. The franchise has struck gold during the purple patch of Dewald Brevis. He has been batting really well; he hits big sixes. Power-striker, monstrous hitter against spin,” he added.

Brevis breaks Virat Kohli’s record with six flurry

Speaking of Brevis, though he scored his fastest fifty, his no look sixes during the innings are going viral on social media. The right handed batter smashed three no look sixes against Australia and also broke Virat Kohli’s record for scoring most number of sixes against Australia in Australia with 14 sixes in the series.
