Dale Steyn analyses Kartik Tyagi’s bowling action after tough outing in MI vs KKR IPL 2026 clash
Kartik Tyagi gave away 43 runs in four overs in Kolkata Knight Riders' season opener against Mumbai Indians

Former Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians registered a thumping six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the second match of the ongoing edition of the tournament, courtesy of attacking half-centuries from the bat of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.
Bowling first after winning the toss, the Hardik Pandya-led side was able to restrict KKR to a manageable total of 220 runs after some disciplined bowling at the backend of the innings led by Shardul Thakur, who picked up three wickets and was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah.
Chasing 221 runs to win, the opening pair of Rickelton and Rohit added 148 runs for the first wicket in double-quick time by taking on an inexperienced bowling attack that KKR possessed.
Kartik Tyagi, who came back in IPL after making changes in his bowling action, was a part of the playing XI of KKR. Tyagi, who last played an IPL match in 2022, was picked up by KKR in the 2025 auction to partner the likes of Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora, but with the team struggling with injuries, he finds himself as one of the main bowlers in the squad.
The fast bowler was visibly struggling to bowl on a good line and length with his new action, something which former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn also pointed out.

Dale Steyn breaks down Kartik Tyagi’s bowling concerns
Dale Steyn was of the opinion that Tyagi is trying to copy the bowling action of other bowlers, which is why he was struggling to pitch the ball in the right areas.
“Tyagi seems to have changed his action, again. A young man with pace and good skill, but I feel yet to believe in his own bodies ability, often copying other bowlers actions to find some hidden gem that could work for him” Steyn said.

Steyn shed light on how copying an action has its advantages while admitting the fact that Tyagi will have to find his own action.
“Copying has its advantages, but at some stage you need to make an action your own.I hope he finds what he’s looking for soon.”
Fans who are quite active on social media, especially during the IPL, also had their say in response to the views that Stayen had while analysing Kartik Tyagi’s bowling action during KKR’s IPL 2026 season opener against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
