Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with high expectations, having scored a century during the final of the recent U19 World Cup against England, which India went on to win. The question was whether he could continue the same dominance after being renowned for his brutal batting.

Sooryavanshi got a life in his very first game of the IPL 2026 with a dropped catch against the Chennai Super Kings. But since then, he hasn’t looked back at all, with two half-centuries and crossing the 300-run mark in four innings of the edition.

Virat Kohli pens special message for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

When Bengaluru posted a massive score of 201 runs in their allotted 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals (RR) were expected to go through a tough period. But Vaibhav Sooryavanshi killed the chase inside the powerplay as they posted 97/1 with a strong partnership with their wicket-keeper, Dhruv Jurel.

Many have called the left-handed opener ‘the Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli’- where a young prodigy shocks the cricketing world with his fearless batting. In that movie, the batter had the magic bat of Kapil Dev’s 1983 World Cup. But the Bihar-born seems to be ahead of his time.

Sooryavanshi ended with a strong knock of 78 runs in 26 balls at a strike rate of 300, thanks to eight boundaries and seven over boundaries as they completed the chase in 18 overs. Virat Kohli, impressed with the shots and the left-handed batter’s performance, penned a heartfelt note at the end of the game.

“Dear Vaibhav, well done.”- Kohli wrote on the Royals cap, which, despite being a simple message, has carried the weight of expectation from the greatest of the game.

RR continues unbeaten IPL 2026 run with four wins

Apart from Vaibhav, Jurel also played a magnificent knock of unbeaten 81 runs in 43 balls at a strike rate of 188.37, with the help of eight boundaries and three sixes. Rajasthan handed Bengaluru their first defeat of the season and earned their fourth successive victory of the competition.
