Since the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), under the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, and T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, left out Shreyas Iyer from the Asia Cup 2025, the social media has gone into an angry mood with the fans showing their desire to see the middle order batter back in the shortest format after a successful IPL 2025 for the Punjab Kings.

Shreyas Iyer’s father, Santosh Iyer, has expressed his frustration over his son’s omission from the Asia Cup squad. The right-handed batter’s last T20I fixture came in December 2023 with 1104 runs in 47 innings at an average of 30.66 and a strike rate of 136.12 with the help of eight half-centuries.

“I don’t know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024, and led PBKS to the final this year.Shreyas’ father expressed to the Times of India (TOI).

During the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the captain of the Punjab Kings drilled 604 runs in 17 innings at an average of more than 50 and a strike rate of 175.07, with the help of six half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 97 runs. Under his captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders won their third title of the league in 2024.

I’m not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the team - even if he's left out of the team, he doesn't show dissent on his face. He'll just say 'Mera Naseeb hai' (It's my luck). You can't do anything now. He's always cool & calm. He doesn't blame anybody, but deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed.Santosh Iyer addressed the TOI.

However, it has also been revealed that Iyer could return for the ODI series against Australia down under in November and could perhaps also make a comeback during the home Test series against West Indies and South Africa.
