Match 8 of IPL 2026 between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians had a thrilling beginning to their encounter at Arun Jaitley Stadium. After winning the toss, Delhi elected to bowl first with the aim of taking early control of the contest, but Mumbai has been able to score a competitive total. The chase looked balanced but tricky for Delhi under lights.

Mumbai Indians scored 162/6 in their 20 overs, a total which proved to be challenging. Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with 51 off 36 balls, making an excellent contribution for MI. Rohit Sharma added 35 runs, while Naman Dhir scored 28 runs. They helped the team to make a good total that would prove to be a tough chase for Delhi.

Delhi Capitals bowlers did well in controlling the run rate in the match. Mukesh Kumar was the best among them, picking up 2 wickets for 26 runs in his four overs. The rest of the bowlers also chipped in with timely wickets. Because of this, MI were restricted from reaching a bigger score.

How KL Rahul was dismissed cheaply in the powerplay

Delhi’s chase began with a bit of caution in the first over. On the first ball, KL Rahulgot off the mark with a quick single. Pathum Nissanka followed with another single, while the third ball resulted in a dot as Rahul hit it straight to the fielder. There was some early pressure as MI bowled tight lines.

The big moment came on the fourth ball of the over. Deepak Chahar bowled a full delivery that swung down the leg side. Rahul tried to flick the ball but failed, putting an edge, allowing the wicketkeeper Rickelton to take a sharp diving catch, Rahul scored only 1 run and continued his poor run of form. This wicket coming early in the innings helped Mumbai Indians gain strength in the match while it also put Delhi Capitals in pressure very early on. Losing Rahul so early made the chase more difficult for the team.
