The announcement was made by Delhi Capitals. Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman will play for the team for the rest of the 18th IPL season. The IPL press release confirming the news also mentioned the amount of money. The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh is being signed by Delhi for ₹6 crore.
However, Mustafiz is joining the team when only a few matches are left. Delhi has three league matches remaining, and the number could increase if they reach the playoffs. The question is, even if the ₹6 crore deal is confirmed, will Mustafiz get the full amount for playing just a few matches?
Mustafiz has been called up by Delhi as a replacement player. In the IPL, players can be replaced on or before the 12th league match. In that case, the reason must be an injury or illness. Delhi has taken Mustafiz as a replacement for Jack Fraser-McGurk. However, this Australian player is not injured or sick. Like many other foreign players, McGurk left India when the IPL was postponed on May 9 due to India-Pakistan tensions.
Also, it is still uncertain whether Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will return to India to play the remaining matches of the IPL. That is why the IPL authorities have allowed franchises to bring in replacements in this special situation.

The question is: will Mustafiz get the full ₹6 crore even though he is joining at the last moment? The answer is simple — No. He will not get the full amount.
According to IPL rules, if a player joins as a replacement in the middle of the season, he is paid on a pro-rata basis. This means the total amount is divided based on the number of matches in the season, and the player is paid only for the matches remaining. In this case, the player doesn't need to take the field — being part of the squad is enough.
If Mustafiz joins Delhi Capitals and the team has three matches left, he will get the portion of ₹6 crore that matches those three games, whether he plays or not. If he does play, he will also get a separate match fee.
According to clause 6.6 of the IPL rules, the fee of a replacement player cannot be more than the contract amount of the original player. The replacement’s payment is reduced depending on how many matches had already been played before he joined (pro-rata payments rule).
Delhi had bought Fraser-McGurk, the player Mustafiz replaced, for ₹9 crore. Following the rules, Mustafiz was signed for ₹6 crore. But his actual payment will depend on how many matches Delhi play after his arrival.
Also, such replacement signings are valid for only one season. So, even if Delhi wants to keep Mustafiz, they cannot retain him next season. He will have to enter the auction again.
