The 2024-25 senior men's domestic cricket season in India will kick off with the Duleep Trophy in early September.
Traditionally, the Duleep Trophy is a warm-up event for India's home Test series and the upcoming tour to Australia later this year. This season, the tournament will undergo some changes. In the past, it was played in a zonal format, featuring teams from six different regions of the country. Last season, South Zone, led by Hanuma Vihari, won the title, defeating West Zone by 75 runs in the final in Bengaluru.
However, this time the BCCI has decided to change things up by eliminating the six-team zonal format. The tournament will feature four teams: India A, India B, India C, and India D. These teams will be selected by the senior national selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar.
The Duleep Trophy will follow a round-robin league format this year, with no knockout matches. The team that finishes at the top of the standings after three rounds will be declared the winner.
The Duleep Trophy will mainly take place at two venues within the Anantapur Cricket Ground complex in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, one match from the first round is expected to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The tournament will run from September 5 to September 22, covering three rounds.
