His batting took down bowlers around continents, and he took India to memorable away victories while having a successful career where he is regarded as one of the greatest all-format cricketers India has ever had.

A New Beginning in 2025

On June 20, 2025, history takes a turn again, beginning India’s first Test in the World Test Championship (2025-27) cycle against England. This is also the first Test after the retirement of a legendary captain—perhaps Rohit Sharma—and allows new blood to take hold of Indian cricket's future.
