Just after India’s mammoth 336-run victory over England during the second Test of the five-match series at Edgbaston, Virat Kohli praised the side. The former India captain applauded the brilliant leadership of Shubman Gill and his army. The tourists, thanks to the victory, leveled the series by 1-1 in Birmingham before heading into Lord's next week. 

Kohli addressed India's fearless character behind the win, where they kept pushing the Ben Stokes-led side to the wall. He also applauded the brilliant batting and leadership of Shubman Gill, who won the 'player of the match' award for his two knocks of 269 and 161 across two innings. The Delhi-born also gave a special mention to the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and the two pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

The pressure was also on the captain, who looked a bit fragile in his leadership during the opening Leeds Test. England, quite comfortably, chased down their second-highest fourth-innings score. In addition, they travelled to a ground where India had yet to gain a red-ball victory, and they had the wounds of the nightmarish defeat in 2022 under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy when Ben Stokes' army successfully chased their highest fourth-innings target. Every odd was against the touring party.

Gill's 269 and 161 set the platform for India's victory, while Ravindra Jadeja's 89 in the first innings saved them from the lower-order collapse. Deep and Siraj were excellent with the ball. The Bengal pacer enjoyed his maiden ten-wicket haul in the five-day format. Siraj hurried the batters with his pace in the first innings and never looked tired, even on a flat surface. This victory is a huge morale booster for the young brigade as they open their account in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. 

With Gill confirming Jasprit Bumrah’s ‘definite’ return for the Lord’s next week, Deep and Siraj will boost India’s pace attack. Most of their batters have also scored truck-load runs in the series so far and can aim for a 2-1 lead in London.
