India: 587

England: 77/3 (20 Overs)

Akash Deep, the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, started his England tour with a bang. He claimed back-to-back 2 wickets, unstabilizing the England batting line-up. Akash removed the opener, Ben Duckett, who haunted India from the first Test match in Headingley, from the ongoing 5-match Test series. The pacer was expensive during his initial deliveries and, almost out of the blue, bagged a couple of wickets in Duckett, who produced a hundred in the second innings, and Ollie Pope, another specialist batter in the Test format for England. Both the batters misjudged the balls and ended in a catch in the slip cordon. After Day 2, India is the frontrunner to win the second test of the ongoing 5-match test series.

England found it hard to break the partnership of India Test team captain Shubman Gill and experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. They stitched a partnership above 200 and helped India to score 587 in the first innings. The visiting side looked better than the first test with the bat and the ball also.

Gill ended his innings with a whopping 269-run innings after facing 387 deliveries. The young skipper decorated his innings with thirty 4s and three 6s. Jadeja claimed another record-breaking 50 in the whites and claimed an 89-run innings. He lost his wicket just before lunch.

After losing the wicket of Jadeja, Gill was dismissed after lunch, and India concluded their innings with 587 runs. Washington Sundar, as another all-rounder of the side, scored a useful 42-run innings, and India got 587 runs, close to 600, on the scoreboard.

Akash Deep took the wickets from nowhere and kept his team in the front seat. After Day 2, England trails by 510 runs.
