ENG vs IND 2nd Test final result:

  • IND: 587 and 427/6d
  • ENG: 407 and 271
  • India won the match by 336 runs.

What a stunning performance by Team India. Shubman Gill and his boys hoisted the victory flag on the fortress of the England cricket team's fortress, Edgbaston. After winning the second Test, the Blue Brigade squares the ongoing 5-match series 1-1. India won the second match by a 336-run margin.

India pacer Akash Deep was at the peak of his form and claimed a total of 10 wickets in the match. It was a rare achievement by an Indian pacer in a Test match in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). After taking 4 wickets in the first innings, the seamer claimed 6 in the next phase of the game.

England was under huge pressure as they had to chase a target of 608 runs to win the contest. If they were able to hold their wickets in the crease, then they could've ended the match with a draw. But India was in a mood to clinch the match, especially after a record-breaking 269-run knock by the skipper Shubman Gill, followed by another ton in the second innings. Gill's captain's knock was well complemented by the bowling department. Akash took a total of 10, and Mohammed Siraj bagged a total of 7 scalps, including a 6-wicket spell in the first essay.

Key factors:

  • Team India's huge lead
  • Steller performance from captain Shubman Gill
  • Historic spell by Akash Deep

England started Day 5 with 7 wickets in hand after a heavy rain spell in Birmingham. Akash Deep did not take too much time to dispatch Ollie and drew the first blood of the morning. Within minutes after the departure of Pope, Akash, this time, took on Harry Brook, another set batsman. Jamie Smith tried to pull out an incredible knock, but he couldn't overcome the barrier set by Akash and lost his wicket for 88.
