A nasty delivery from Chris Woakes caused trouble for Yashasvi Jaiswal. With pace, a delivery from the England pacer climbed on Jaiswal suddenly, and then, out of too much pressure, the handle of the bat broke. Jaiswal had to replace his broken bat with a fresh one.

It was the fifth delivery of the 9th over of the first innings when India's score was 25 for no wicket loss. Woakes delivers a back-of-the-length ball; the India opener was on his back foot, shields up for defense. The ball got some extra bounce than usual, which caught Jaiswal by surprise. The red duke hit directly on the upfront of the blade, and the handle broke.
Jaiswal was amazed to see his bat with a broken handle. He tried to spot the point where the ball hit the timber. There was some grass on the pitch, and because of yesterday's (July 22, 2025) rain and heavy conditions, the pitch has something to offer for the pacer.
England skipper Ben Stokes did not make any delay to choose to field first after winning the toss. According to the weather forecasts for Manchester, clouds are to remain above on the field with a possibility of rain after the evening. It was a no-brainer for Stokes to decide to bowl first. England, the home team, is maintaining their pace bowling combinations with Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, and Chris Wokes. After the 14th over, theopening pair of Team India, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, is looking solid on the pitch.
