BCCI announced a squad for the upcoming 5-match Test series against England with a mix of experienced and new faces, with Shubman Gill as the captain. Needless to say, it'll be a tough task for Team India to make a mark against England in their backyard without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who walked off from the format. The board has selected a number of interesting names in the squad. The squad with multiple batting options will be interesting to see which batters can make the most difference on the pitch. The bowling lineup definitely will be there in England Jasprit Bumrah in front.
Shubman Gill: The new captain of team India in the Test series for the England tour. Previously, his batting in overseas conditions was criticized heavily due to the low number of runs. Gill, now 25, with much bigger responsibility on his shoulders, should try his level best to produce a notable amount of runs. As a top-order batter, his contribution with the bat will be crucial. But mostly, how he utilizes the bowlers, which strategy Gill likes to own, will be interesting to see in the tournament.
Rishabh Pant: The deputy of Shubman Gill in the series. The wicketkeeper bat is known for his counter-attacking batting style in Whites. Last time when India traveled to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Pant displayed his fighting mentality when the team was on the back foot. It'll be exciting to see how he performs in England with a leadership role in the back.

KL Rahul: After the retirement of Virat and Sharma, Rahul is the only remaining full-time senior batter in the squad for the England Test series. The right-handed batter scored a ton of runs and batted with a confident approach in IPL 2025, which raised the bar more for him. In a classic English condition, where pacers can get swings and extra bounce from the surface, batters like Rahul, who has polished technical batting skills, can be useful for Gill's team India.
Jasprit Bumrah: Arguably Bumrah can be the best bowler in the series. England has been suffering with a number of injury problems and left multiple renowned names untapped for the 5-match Test series. When India failed miserably against Australia in BGT, it was Bumrah who single-handedly tried to turn the table. Expectations will be the same from him against England as well.
Karun Nair: Now, it is not possible to say how the Indian playing XI will shape up versus England. Nair is definitely one of the fan-favorite players in the squad and has enough reasons to get an entry in the playing lineup. From his triple ton in his debut to play in county cricket, Nair knows England and English conditions very well. After a record-breaking domestic career, the batter deserves a spot in the eleven.
