England was by far the favorite to win the match and the series when Joe Root and Harry Brook were batting in the middle. The moment shifted suddenly after the dismissal of Brook and the Root. England's lower-order batting collapsed. Gus Atkinson tried his best to survive and protect the last wicket with an injured Chris Woakes, whose left arm was tucked in a sling inside the sweater.

India won the match by 6 runs and shaped the scoreline of the 5-match Anderson-Tendulkar trophy to 2-2.
