Rajeev Shukla Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India extended his congratulations to Tamim Iqbal after the former Bangladesh captain was appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Shukla praised Tamim's leadership qualities he believes that Tamim's experience as a cricketer will expand the sport in Bangladesh and international territories.

After the Bangladesh government removed the previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul because of alleged election irregularities from October 2025 Tamim aged 37 established himself as the youngest BCB president. He will now lead an 11-member ad-hoc committee which needs to restore board operations while organising upcoming elections throughout the next months.

Rajeev Shukla praises new leadership in Bangladesh Cricket Board

The Indian cricket authorities are demonstrating a positive response through their current treatment of Shukla's message which supports the newly established leadership in Bangladesh. The statement showed his belief that Bangladesh cricket needs a new direction which former player Tamim can deliver during its present transitional period.

Bangladesh cricket requires administrative rebuilding at the current moment because it needs to establish a new administrative framework. The Tamim leadership will concentrate on three main objectives which include governance reforms and player development and rebuilding trust in the system after board election controversies.

Tamim Iqbal’s stats, records and legacy in international cricket

Tamim Iqbal stands as one of the top cricketers who ever played for Bangladesh. He achieved this record during his 17-year career when he became the top run-scorer for his nation across all cricket formats after scoring more than 15,000 runs.

His Test career included 70 matches in which he scored 5,134 runs and achieved 10 centuries. His ODI career included 243 matches during which he scored 8,357 runs and achieved 14 centuries. His T20I career included 78 matches in which he scored 1,758 runs and achieved 1 century.

He became the first Bangladeshi batter who achieved centuries in every cricket format while becoming the only player to reach 25 international hundreds. His aggressive batting style at the start of innings helped Bangladesh develop into a competitive team in international cricket.

India-Bangladesh cricket ties in focus after past tensions and potential series resumption

The appointment of Tamim comes at a time when people expect better cricketing relationships between India and Bangladesh after they experienced a period of conflict. The past year saw a breakdown in relations between the two countries because of political disputes and cricketing problems.

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman became a major flashpoint when he was released from his IPL 2026 contract before the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which people connected to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Bangladesh took strong measures to cut diplomatic ties by refusing to participate in specific arrangements, which negatively affected their relationship with the other country.

India's scheduled tour of Bangladesh for August 2025 white-ball series had to be canceled because of political unrest and security issues. The two cricket boards created additional separation through their actions. The leadership transition in Bangladesh has created new hope for the country. The India-Bangladesh series has now been rescheduled in September 2026 because both boards want to proceed with their plans.

Bangladesh cricket administration will gain from Tamim Iqbal's appointment which can help restore cricket relations between the two countries and start a new phase in their sports relationship.
