The former Indian pacer, Chetan Sharma, was present during the auction of the first season of the CLT10 league. He achieved the first-ever World Cup hat-trick in October 1987 against New Zealand, when he dismissed Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith, and Ewen Chatfield on three successive balls.

The 59-year-old, who picked up 61 Test wickets in 39 innings at an average of 35.45 and had bagged 67 ODI wickets in 63 innings @34.86 at 34.86, has shared his views on the England vs India Test series and the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) during an exclusive interview with the website.

The Punjab-born spoke about the importance of sports and how they want to grow the new CLT10 league, which will excite the kids, in the future.

Reporter: A new season of the Champions T10 League is starting. You have added cricketers, entertainers, and influencers to it. Please share something on this.

Chetan Sharma: See, I always encourage people to play sports, irrespective of which mode you are playing, whether it’s Tennis or hardball, hockey, or football. But kids should play sports. And if everyone comes to support them, then what will be better than that? Few people from the film and music industry have come to support the indoor CL10 game. You can see the excitement of the kids and the franchise. It’s good to see everyone supporting the sport.

Reporter: India is playing the Test series against England. Shubman Gill has done really well as the leader and with the bat. India can’t win the series, but what’s your takeaway on it?

Chetan Sharma: I think we fought well. We had almost won the Lord’s Test. The fortune was with them. The last Test, which we drew, was excellent. We have won one Test match. They are ahead by 2-1. I hope, in this Oval Test, we hit them hard and come back with 2-2. If we go outside and come back with a two-all margin, then it’s a huge achievement.

Reporter: Season two of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) is starting. They have already experienced international players in the IPL and will come back with it. Digvesh Rathi, Priyansh Arya, and Himmat Singh were good. How do you see it?

Chetan Sharma: See, they have come with international experiences. Once they come into the dressing room, they can share the experience with the youngsters. But once you come from the highest level in season two, the pressure remains on you. Now, you have to perform. The new bowlers and batters will want to do well against them. The previous season was excellent, and I hope this season also hits the same level.
