About Sanju Samson’s Special Celebration

Sunday, March 1, 2026, will remain a special day in Sanju Samson’s career. The wicketkeeper-batter played one of the finest innings of his international career during the quarter-final stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, helping India reach the semi-finals comfortably.

The former Rajasthan Royals skipper scored an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls at a time when India needed a strong performance from the top order. He was under pressure before the match, as he had spent much of the tournament on the bench and had not played any major innings earlier.

After taking India to victory, Samson celebrated in a calm and emotional way. He went down on his knees, closed his eyes, and said a silent prayer. The moment quickly became one of the most memorable scenes of the tournament. After this the 'Chetta' also delivered key performances in important matches, scoring 97* against West Indies, 89 against England in the semi-final, and 89 against New Zealand in the final, playing a major role in India’s success.

He went on to become India’s highest run-scorer in the tournament, finishing with 321 runs and winning the Player of the Tournament award. Samson said the achievement “felt like a dream.”

Sanju Samson Joins Chennai Super Kings Ahead of IPL 2026

The 31-year-old cricketer has moved from Rajasthan Royals to CSK in a trade deal before IPL 2026. After spending many years with Rajasthan and leading the team, Samson decided to take a new challenge.

His exit marks the end of a long journey with Rajasthan Royals, where he was a key player and also the face of the team.

CSK gave him a warm welcome after he joined. The team shared posts and videos on social media, which quickly went viral. Many fans also came to greet him, showing their excitement. The franchise even called him “Chettan in Chennai,” which added to the buzz.

This will be Samson’s third IPL team after playing for Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He comes into this season after a strong performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Samson is expected to play in the top order, likely opening with Ayush Mhatre. CSK will look to him to give a fast start in the powerplay and build the innings.

Earlier, Samson also shared that he is excited to work with MS Dhoni, which could help him improve further.

CSK will start their IPL 2026 campaign on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, and fans will be watching closely to see how Samson performs for his new team.
