Former Australia player to join LSG in major role ahead of IPL 2026

Although the IPL 2026 is still quite some time away, but the teams have started their preparations for a huge, exciting tournament. Replacing former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan, veteran Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has joined LSG as their Global Director of Cricket. The franchise shared the news on social media, calling it a big step towards a stronger future.

The Lucknow Super Giants are still looking for their first trophy in the IPL after joining the league in 2022. Although they had at least two reasonably successful seasons, they were unable to finish the job. Now, ahead of IPL 2026, LSG management felt it needed to overhaul the organization and was willing to designate Zaheer Khan in September 2025, hiring Tom Moody as his replacement, and hoping that his previous experience will help the franchise find success in the IPL.

Tom Moody will not only support the LSG team, he will oversee all the Super Giants franchises that participate in T20 leagues around the world. His appointment has generated a lot of excitement and optimism among the fan base that he may be the key to success in the forthcoming season.

Tom Moody has a long and successful history in world cricket. Alongside being a terrific player for Australia, he is well-known for being a successful coach and cricket director. He coached Sri Lanka to the 2007 World Cup final and he has worked in major leagues such as the CPL and BBL. His most notable achievement, surely, was with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, where he guided them to the 2016 title and to multiple playoffs. As he walks into this new chapter with LSG, fans are hopeful that his experience and leadership will make a difference for the team and finally win the franchise their first IPL title.
