Ahead of the India vs England (IND vs ENG) semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousaf, through his ‘X’ post, suggests the International Cricket Council (ICC) change rules from the next editions of the T20 World Cups.

Mohammad Yousaf observes that the level between the finalists and the other participating teams is massive. To make the title race more competitive, the former Pakistan cricketer asks the ICC to change the format of the tournament.

The former Pakistan batter explains that to take the competition to a higher level, the council should consider two different stages. For the initial stage, it can be between the associate teams and previous non-qualifiers. For the next stage, some of the best-performing teams from the first stage will join the next stage, where they will meet the top six teams for the main event.

“The level and skill gap between teams that reach the finals and the rest has become huge. To make #T20WorldCups more competitive, we may soon need two separate stages. One where associate teams compete with previous non-qualifiers, before the top six teams join the main event #icc”,  Mohammad Yousaf’s suggestion for the ICC.

In the same ‘X” post, he predicted the two finalists of the ongoing T20 World Cup. According to Yousaf, Team India and South Africa can be the two teams to square off in the summit clash.
