Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) player named in Canada’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad

Canada’s cricket board has included a former spinner of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) of the Indian Premier League, Ansh Patel, for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, as they become the 14th team to declare their squad for the mega event in India and Sri Lanka, starting on February 07.

The Punjab Kings bowler has been part of seven innings of the shortest format for six wickets at an average of 14.50 and an economy rate of below five. The side has a nice combination of youth and experience as they will look to impress further. Dilpreet Bajwa will lead the 15-member squad for the World Cup.

Bajwa celebrated four half-centuries and carried a strike rate of 133.22 in the shortest format of the game. In Canada’s Super 60 T20 event last October, he notched up vital knocks of 57 runs in just 18 balls and 67 undefeated runs off just 22 balls. The opening batter, Yuvraj Sharma, is another big-hitter, having struck 27 sixes in 15 T20I innings at 160.72.

Ansh Patel named in Canada’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad

The former captain of the side, Saad Bin Zafar, Kaleem Sana, Dilon Heyliger, Nicholas Kirton, and Navneet Dhaliwal are also named in the same squad. The Canada side remains in Group D, along with South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They will open their campaign against the Proteas on February 09 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. All of their group matches are in India.

This will be the second appearance of the side at the T20 World Cup, having participated in the 2024 season, where they beat Ireland. They made it to the edition of the event by winning the Americas Regional Final. They were unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, winning all six of their matches.
