Final roster decisions for the IPL season have to be made by 12:00 p.m., the final date for players to submit their lists of retained and released players. Upon submission of the retention list to the BCCI, the apex board will issue a release that includes the amount spent by every franchise.

A team’s purse will be depleted by Rs 42 crore if it retains 4 players, while the amount will drop to Rs 33 crore if it retains 3 players. There will be a deduction of 24 crores from the purse if a franchise retains two players. If a team retains only one player, he will be forced to pay Rs 14 crore.

Although fans are still waiting for an official word from the franchises, Gautam Gambhir has announced his 4 picks for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Gambhir told Star Sports that his four selections for the match would be Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran.

Despite not picking MS Dhoni, the CSK skipper is likely to be the first player retained as he has confirmed his availability for the upcoming season. It looks like Dhoni will earn Rs 16 crore as the first retention for CSK and has been one of the highest-paid players for CSK. Before the official announcement on retained and released players, ESPNcricinfo reported Moeen, Dhoni, Jadeja, and Gaikwad remained with the Yellow Army. Moeen and Gaikwad both contributed to the success of the team with their tremendous skills in IPL 2021.

In all likelihood, Dhoni, CSK’s sole full-time skipper so far, will continue the team for at least one more season.
