Gautam Gambhir moves court against AI manipulation and fake content using his identity on social media
Gautam Gambhir moves Delhi High Court against deepfake videos, AI misuse, and unauthorised merchandise, seeking urgent takedown and ₹2.5 crore damages.

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has moved the Delhi Court, filing a lawsuit against systematic misuse of his identity through deepfakes and AI manipulation on social media. A statement is surfacing on the internet that includes the full details of Gambhir's lawsuit. Gautam Gambhir’s legal team has written to the Commercial Division of the Delhi High Court on March 19, in detail about the accounts, naming them, and claiming damages for tarnishing his reputation.
They have sought protection of his identity and publicity rights against a coordinated campaign of digital impersonation, AI-generated deepfakes, and unauthorised commercial exploitation. Gautam Gambhir has asked the court to make the accused pay ₹2.5 crore as compensation for the harm caused. Moreover, he also wants all fake videos, deepfakes, posts, and unauthorised products related to him to be removed immediately.
“My identity — my name, my face, my voice — has been weaponised by anonymous accounts to spread misinformation and generate revenue at my expense. This is not a matter of personal hurt; it is a matter of law, dignity, and the protection every public figure deserves in the age of artificial intelligence," said Gautam Gambhir.
"Beginning in late 2025, Mr. Gambhir’s legal team documented a sharp and alarming increase in fabricated digital content across Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Facebook. Multiple accounts deployed artificial intelligence, face-swapping, and voice-cloning technologies to create realistic videos falsely depicting Mr. Gambhir making statements he never made — including a fraudulent “resignation announcement” that garnered over 29 lakh views, and a fabricated clip purporting to show him making remarks about senior cricketers’ World Cup participation that drew over 17 lakh views. Beyond social media, major e-commerce platforms were facilitating the sale of posters and merchandise bearing his name and likeness without any authorisation," read the statement.

The statement has 16 defendants, including social media accounts of JanKey Frames, Bhupendra Paintok, Legends Revolution, GemsOfCricket, and others.
"The suit is filed against 16 defendants including social media accounts (JanKey Frames, Bhupendra Paintok, Legends Revolution, sugkathacks, cricket_memes45, GemsOfCricket, Crickit, Sunny Upadhyay, @imRavi), e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart), platform intermediaries (Meta Platforms Inc., X Corp., Google LLC / YouTube), and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and Department of Telecommunications as pro forma parties to facilitate implementation of any court order," read the statement.

Gautam Gambhir's tenure as head coach of Indian team
The transition from being a player to head coach wasn't a smooth journey for Gautam Gambhir, as he faced much criticism on the journey. Starting from bringing in Suryakumar Yadav as captain in T20Is to Shubman Gill in ODIs and Tests, the decisions have not been well taken by the audience. In fact, Gill was also a part of the T20I set-up but didn't work well either.
However, collecting trophies has remained consistent for the head coach. India started by winning the Champions Trophy, followed by the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup victory. However, the red-ball cricket is yet to be tackled since the WTC final 2027 is approaching sooner, and India are still in the sixth position in the points table.
