Ayush Mhatre broke into the scene for Mumbai in domestic cricket through some incredible performances with the bat at the opening position in the batting department. Later, he broke into the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side as the opener during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Mhatre came into the Yellow franchise as the injury replacement and broke several records with some fantastic performances with the bat against the quality bowlers. The 18-year-old has great timing and admires the former captain of the Indian side, Rohit Sharma, a lot.

Ayush Mhatre reveals conversation with Rohit Sharma

Mhatre spoke about meeting Rohit ahead of the India U-19 side’s trip to England last year, post the IPL. He revealed how the World Cup-winning captain shared his address with Mhatre, who later went to his house and spoke with the veteran for two hours, which was a dream-come-true moment for the youngster.

Watch the video here:

“I was about to go for the England tour, and I wanted to talk to him (Rohit Sharma). I messaged him, Hi, Rohit Brother, and I told him that I wanted to meet him. He gave me his address, and I went to his house the next day. I spoke to him for 2 hours, and he gave me so much time. And that was a dream for me.” Mhatre said in the video on CSK.

Mhatre also met Rohit during CSK’s contest of the IPL 2025 against the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Even in a small knock, he played some excellent shots around the park and impressed many people.

Ayush Mhatre’s domestic and IPL performance

Ayush Mhatre has overall cracked 660 runs in 22 innings of first-class cricket at an average of 30, thanks to two centuries and as many half-centuries at the best score of 176 runs. In the seven innings of the List-A cricket, the right-handed batter has smashed 458 runs at an average of 65.42.

In T20s, Mhatre has 565 runs in just 14 innings at an average of over 50 and a strike rate of nearly 175, thanks to a couple of fifties and as many centuries. In the IPL, he has nailed 240 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 187.50.

Rohit Sharma starts IPL 2026 in form

Rohit hasn’t featured in competitive cricket since the end of the home three-match ODI series against New Zealand at the start of the year. So, many wondered if he could hold the same form and shape heading into the IPL 2026.

For the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit ended up with 78 runs in just 38 balls with the help of six boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 205.26 as the home side completed the chase of 224 runs by six wickets.
