Watch: "Getting worse..."- Lalit Modi reacts to future of India vs Pakistan in Test cricket
The former vice-president of BCCI, Lalit Modi, has reacted to the potential future of the Test cricket between the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, despite being affected by the politics.

The last Test match between the two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, took place in 2007/08 when the blue brigade earned a 1-0 series victory in three clashes. Since then, both teams haven’t come across each other in the longest format at all, with their last tour of each other ending in 2012 when Pakistan came to India for the white-ball series.
But due to political reasons, that has also stopped with the two sides featuring only in the ICC and ACC events, including the T20 and ODI World Cups, Asia Cup, and the Champions Trophy. But will they ever feature in Test cricket? Away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, it's the new talk of the town.
Lalit Modi reacts to India vs Pakistan Test match future?
The founder and first chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the former vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), during the recent podcast on Stick to Cricket, was asked whether there would be any future for red-ball contests between the two neighboring countries. It would have been exciting to see Jasprit Bumrah running with the red ball against Babar Azam.
“The problem is if the Pakistan Cricket Board is independent and runs independently and wasn’t politically influenced, we could have some traction. But today the Pakistan Cricket Board is so much politicized by the power that will be and are pulling the levers and making it fully political.” Modi expressed on the podcast.

Lalit Modi reckoned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), being dependent on the political aspect of the country, has made the massive issue. Modi felt that both countries and their fans loving their game has also made it a problem.
“We have tension at that level in the political aspect, and that’s not going away. It’s only going to get worse. So, I fear for the players. I fear that we are a very passionate and patriotic country, and so are the Pakistanis.” Modi informed.

“So, I fear that it may not be possible in the near future, unfortunately, primarily because of the politicization by the Pakistan Cricket Board and the power of Pakistan. And unfortunately, that’s the way it is.” He concluded.
