Vaibhav Suryavanshi is back in form with a bang. After three underwhelming matches, the 14-year-old top-order batter smashed a century, the maiden century in his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) career. In a SMAT 2025 match between Bihar and Maharashtra at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Suryavanshi scored an unbeaten hundred-plus-run innings. With the help of the ton, Bihar, batting first, registered 176 runs in 20 overs in exchange for only 3 wickets.

Bihar was in an uncomfortable situation during the initial stage of the match, as they lost two quick wickets in the first five overs before scoring fifty. When the other batters of the team were struggling to find rhythm against the Maharashtra bowling attack, Vaibhav remained strong on the track. Once he got settled down on the crease, the batter started to play his natural attacking batting.

The opener completed his SMAT 2025 ton by hammering an over boundary and instantly became the youngest player ever to score a century in the tournament. With today's hundred, the 14-year-old now has three T20 hundreds under his belt. Vaibhav remained unbeaten for 108 off 61. His innings was laced with seven boundaries and seven over-boundaries, which took the strike rate to 177.05.

Maiden SMAT century for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi

It is important to note that on a winter morning in Kolkata, it was never easy to bat on a fresh pitch of the Eden Gardens. During the last few overs of the first innings, Ayush Anand Loharuka provided Vaibhav Suryavanshi some much-needed support with 25* against 17 balls.

Despite the century, Bihar could get only 176, which is a competitive total but could be more if the emerging batter got some more support from his teammates. Before the match, Suryavanshi was not in good form. During the last three SMAT 2025 matches, the left-handed did not cross the 20-run mark at least once. Now, he got back his form by scoring a record-breaking century.
