Yesterday (September 8, 2025) was Shubman Gill's birthday. To make the special day, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) took a special initiative. To celebrate the birthday of their and India's Test team skipper with the fans, GT hung up a mammoth poster from a building where the crowd and social media followers can see Gill posing in a Gujarat Titans jersey. Shubman turned 26 and already had multiple remarkable records under his belt. From India's age group team to the senior setup, the top-order batter's rise was rapid.

Shubman Gill's IPL career:

The right-handed batter made his IPL debut with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2018 season. After spending four seasons with KKR, Gill joined the Gujarat-based franchise in 2022. His inclusion proved massive for them. In that year, GT won the IPL 2022 title, where the Punjab-born player played a pivotal role. During the following season, in IPL 2023, he claimed a record-breaking 890-run season with four centuries.

Later, he went to captain the side after the departure of Hardik Pandya. During the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, Gujarat Titans under Gill's leadership played in a promising manner and were able to make their way to the round of four. They concluded their campaign as the third-best team in the points table with 18 points in 14 matches.

Gill's international career:

Shubman Gill's international career took a huge jump before the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. Rohit Sharma, who was the skipper of India, announced his retirement from the format and created a space for a new leader to come. Virat Kohli also followed the footprints of Sharma. So, in that scenario, without Rohit and Virat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials had no option but to choose a new captain ahead of the crucial 5-match Test series, and they voted for 25-year-old Shubman Gill.

His batting and leadership qualities against England, under overseas conditions, stunned cricket fraternities. India heroically leveled the series 2-2 before heading back home. In the series, Gill broke the legendary Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing record by scoring 754 runs, the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series.
