Hardik Pandya–Yashasvi Jaiswal trade talks before IPL 2027 Mini-Auction: Know full details
Reports link MI’s Hardik Pandya and RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal in a swap before the IPL 2027 mini-auction. Know the full details of the trade talks, what the franchises have said and how both fared in IPL 2026

The most-discussed trade between Hardik Pandya and Yashasvi Jaiswal appears to come to a halt ahead of the mini auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. The probability hasn’t been ruled out yet, while the proposed deal between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) seem to have lost pace.
The reports revealed that the trade discussion wasn’t baseless with the franchises holding discussions a few months ago. It was based on the Royals having another left-handed opening batter in Lhuan-dre-Pretorious, who hasn’t played many games for the franchise despite being in the side for two seasons.
MI and RR reportedly exploring a Pandya–Jaiswal swap, but no official confirmation yet
Pretorious’ form has been superb in the last couple of months. The South Africa batter smashed the highest T20 score recently besides collecting 465 runs in the 2026 season of the Major League Cricket (MLC) at a strike rate of more than 176, thanks to a century and four half-centuries.
Pretorious could provide the Royals with a back-up option if Yashasvi Jaiswal trade were to materialise. The inaugural champions of the tournament, who didn’t respond to this news, was part of the trade with the Chennai Super Kings where they got Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in place of Sanju Samson.
Meanwhile, Hardik’s relation with MI seemed to be a little fragile towards the end of the last IPL. There are reports of them turning up to Rohit Sharma for the next season’s captaincy. But being an all-rounder of the Indian side with incredible experience, the trade won’t be easy with other teams also keeping an eye on the development.
How Pandya and Jaiswal performed during the IPL 2026?
Hardik had a struggling campaign for the Mumbai Indians of the IPL 2026, both with the bat and ball in hand. The right-handed batter managed only 206 runs in 10 innings at an average of 22.88 and a strike rate of 138.25 with no fifty on his name. In fact, he hasn’t scored a fifty in the for the last three seasons since 2024.
With the ball, the Indian veteran collected only four wickets in nine innings at an average of 64.75 and an economy rate of more than 11. His bowling was not up to the mark in all the phases of the 20-over game, which created issues for the five-time champions.
However, Jaiswal blasted 427 runs for the Rajasthan Royals in 16 innings of the IPL 2026 at an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 152.50 with three fifties at the best score of unbeaten 77 runs. That was his fourth successive season with more than 400 runs since 2023.
