Finn Allen played his last game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata during the semifinal of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand and blew away South Africa for a mouth-watering century to guide his side to the final. And the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and their fans hoped the same in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. 

Allen spent the entire first innings in the air-conditioning room against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before starting on with full power and aggression from where he left off. For a moment, he seemed to be running out of the game in the blink of an eye.

Harsh Dubey’s sharp fielding effort turns heads on the field

Finn Allen came against his Big Bash League (BBL) team-mate for the Perth Scorchers, Davie Payne, in the opening over around the park, which saw the SRH captain, Ishan Kishan, introducing the left-arm spinner, Harsh Dubey, into the attack, who had the last laugh.

The second ball of the over was chipped over the mid-off region for a boundary by the Kiwi batter, whose weakness was exposed against the spinner. On the third delivery, it was a brave stuff from the Madhya Pradesh spinner, who went for the tossed up delivery on the middle stump.

The ball curved in and took the inner half of the blade of the right-handed batter, who looked to go over the cover. The ball came at a good pace towards Harsh Dubey, who kept his eyes on the ball and took a good return catch to get dismissed for 28 runs in seven balls. 

Finn Allen’s dismissal halts KKR’s momentum in key phase

On the second ball of the first innings. Allen stood tall and smoked the length delivery of Payne through covers for a boundary before pulling the wide short ball into the deep mid-wicket region for another boundary.

The fourth ball was cleared over the bowler’s head by Allen, who backed his power and picked the short ball to pull it high and handsome over the mid-wicket region as it sailed deep into the stands. With another boundary, KKR went off to a flying start.

But after Allen’s wicket, they struggled to get the same power, and the pressure saw Rahane being dismissed in the fifth over.
