“He Should Have Supported That” – Former India Cricketer Blames Shubman Gill for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Run-Out in IND vs WI 2nd Test 2025
Fans and experts have been divided over who was responsible for the mix-up. Sanjay Bangar, however, blamed Shubman Gill, saying that in such situations, the non-striker should trust the striker’s call.

Former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar said that Shubman Gill should have responded to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s call for a quick single to avoid the run-out on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies.
The two batters were involved in a big mix-up, which led to Jaiswal’s dismissal for 175 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, October 11.
Jaiswal, who was close to scoring his third double hundred, wanted a quick single early in the first session on Day 2. He played a shot toward mid-off and ran for a single. However, Gill did not respond and sent him back after looking at the ball.
By that time, Jaiswal had already reached too far and could not return to the crease. The fielder’s quick throw to the wicketkeeper led to his run-out. Jaiswal showed his frustration toward Gill before walking back to the pavilion.

Bangar Criticizes Gill for Run-Out
“The drive was played, and Shubman Gill looked at the ball and started to run from the non-striker’s end before saying no. Because of the speed at which Jaiswal hit the shot, Gill might have been unsure. But the call was the striker’s, and he should have supported it. By then, Jaiswal had already covered a lot of distance,” Sanjay Bangar said on Jio Hotstar.
Yashasvi Jaiswal could not make the most of his strong start on Day 1. The young batter now has seven Test hundreds, with three coming on home soil.
Gill Shines After Jaiswal’s Dismissal
Shubman Gill scored his highest Test score at home as India declared at 518-5 in the IND vs WI 2nd Test 2025.
Gill guided the innings after Jaiswal’s early dismissal on Day 2. After a careful start on Day 1, he played freely to pressure the West Indies bowlers. He built key partnerships with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurel, scoring his 10th Test hundred.
Gill remained unbeaten on 129, beating his previous best of 128 from the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad. India declared at 518-5 after Dhruv Jurel was dismissed by Roston Chase in the 135th over.
