Brett Randell creates history by taking 5 wickets in 5 balls in a Plunket Shield match, the first such feat in 254 years of first-class cricket.

The New Zealand cricket bowler Brett Randell established a new record by becoming the first player in first-class cricket which has existed for 254 years to achieve five wickets through five consecutive deliveries. The incredible accomplishment took place during a Plunket Shield match at McLean Park in Napier when Randell played for Central Districts against Northern Districts.
The second match day showed the extraordinary bowling performance. Randell took the first wicket with the final delivery of his second over and then claimed the next four wickets at the start of his following over. The Northern Districts team experienced a massive collapse which resulted in their score dropping from 4 runs without losing any wickets to 9 runs for 5 wickets. The right-arm seamer achieved remarkable bowling results by taking 5 wickets while allowing only 2 runs to score.

Randell's wickets included the following players: Henry Cooper, Jeet Raval, Joe Carter, and Robbie O'Donnell, plus Kristian Clarke, who played as the fifth player. The bowler accomplished the remarkable achievement of six wickets through eight deliveries which remains an uncommon achievement in first-class cricket. He maintained his superior performance as a bowler by securing seven wickets while giving up only 25 runs during 11 overs which resulted in Northern Districts being dismissed for only 82 runs.

Calm execution leads to record-breaking bowling spell
The bowler worked to maintain his basic bowling pattern while he executed the team's fundamental strategy without attempting to obtain wickets.
The 30-year-old also revealed that he initially had no idea that the achievement was a world-first in first-class cricket, calling it a "pinch-me moment."
Randell's first-class cricket performance established a new record as the first bowling spell to achieve five wickets through five consecutive balls which had previously occurred in domestic T20 cricket.
