While India just ended the hectic schedule of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia for the five-match Test series, where the visitors lost the series by 3-1, the Indian cricketers are now moving on to the limited-overs formats.

After hosting England for the five-match T20I series and three-match ODI series, starting from January 22, India have an important schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan will host the upcoming ICC tournament, while India will play all their matches of the tournament in the United Arab Emirates. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will start on February 19.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also likely to play in the ODI series vs England

There are media reports of the new vice-captain for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, while most of the Indian ODI cricketers, who are set for the upcoming ICC ODI tournament, are set to return for the three-match ODI series against England, starting on February 6. Only the right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the home ODI series against England. So, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to play the home ODI series against England to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Shreyas Iyer and other key Indian ODI names, like Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, etc., are set to return to the ODI squad. The T20I and ODI squads for the England series are likely to be announced between 9 and 12 January.

According to reports, Bumrah can be chosen as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 if the fast bowler remains fit for the tournament.

The likely ODI squad for the home series against England and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is (in order of playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

Other important names for ODI

The other probable names in the complete ODI squad are Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, etc. Apart from these familiar names, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, and Riyan Parag are also knocking on the door for the ODI format.
