IND vs AUS: Jhye Richardson ruled out of ODI series, doubtful for IPL

Australia pacer Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against India, which is set to begin after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy concludes in 2023. Richardson reportedly suffered a hamstring injury, which may prevent him from playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023.

Jhye Richardson will miss the Marsh Cup final, which will be played on Friday, March 10, between Western Australia and South Australia. He is said to have aggravated his hamstring injury, which he suffered during the 2022-23 Big Bash League (BBL) season. Aside from the shoulder injury he suffered in 2019, Jhye Richardson has dealt with soft-tissue injuries over the last two seasons. He took five wickets against England in Adelaide in December 2021, but was ruled out of the next Test due to a heel injury. He hasn’t played a Test match since.

Jhye Richardson to miss the ODI series, doubtful of upcoming IPL for Mumbai Indians

Cricket Australia has yet to name a replacement for Richardson for their upcoming tour to India. Unfortunately for Richardson, he hasn’t represented Australia in an international game since June 2022. In June 2022, Richardson represented Australia in ODIs and T20Is in Sri Lanka. His pre-season was cut short by a number of soft tissue issues ahead of the domestic season in October. As a result, prior to the BBL, he was limited to just two Sheffield Shield games and one Marsh Cup game.

Richardson was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions earlier this year, but it appears that he will also miss the marquee tournament. Richardson was purchased for Rs 1.5 crore by the five-time champions. His return for club side Fremantle last Saturday lasted just four overs before he tweaked the same hamstring. A timeframe on his return hasn’t been determined, but he will miss Australia’s three-match ODI tour of India, which starts on March 17.
