India captain Suryakumar Yadav reveals Abhishek Sharma's fitness status before IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2026 clash

India and Pakistan are both getting ready for their big meeting in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which Colombo will host on Sunday night (February 14). While the Pakistan team is thinking whether the Indian aggressive opener Abhishek Sharma will be fit or not for the Sunday fixture, the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has hinted at Abhishek Sharma's current fitness status. 

Abhishek Sharma missed India's second match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which was against Namibia last Thursday night (February 12). Abhishek missed that match due to a stomach infection, for which he was hospitalised, but was released on Wednesday (February 11).

However, during the toss of the Namibia match, the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav clarified that Abhishek was unavailable for that match, as he may miss one or two matches before getting match fit.

On the eve of the India vs Pakistan high-voltage ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 match, while the Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha was asked about Abhishek Sharma's importance in the Indian playing XI, the Pakistan skipper praised the Indian opener and wished the best for his full recovery to play the match. 

Pakistan captain said, “I really hope — we all know he's a good player — and I really hope he plays tomorrow because we want to play against the best team they have. I really hope he is recovering well and can play tomorrow."

Later, the media asked this to the Indian skipper while mentioning the Pakistan captain reaction, as Suryakumar Yadav had an interesting reply. 

The Indian captain Suryakumar said, “If Pakistan want Abhishek Sharma to play, he will play." Does it mean that the opener is fit for the Pakistan match? The recent report also suggests that Abhishek Sharma is getting ready for the match, which can be great news for Indian cricket. It means that Sanju Samson may be dropped to open the space for Abhishek.
