Asia Cup 2025 (Super Fours), India vs Pakistan: No handshake between India and Pakistan players
As a protest of the 2025 Pahalgam attack incident, the Indian team has decided not to maintain a generic friendly status on the field with the Pakistan cricket team, as there is no room for shaking hands with them. India started this status from their group stage meeting in the Asia Cup 2025, and maintained it in the Super Fours. In both the matches against Pakistan, India neither shook hands at the toss nor at the end of the game.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wasn't happy with India's no-handshake decision during the group stage fixture, as the board didn't take it lightly. While they complained against the match referee and later against the Indian captain (reportedly) for his comment in the post-match press conference, they forced a one-hour delayed start in their next and last group stage fixture against the hosts, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While India repeated their no-handshake status with the Pakistan cricket team in the Super Fours stage as expected, it will be interesting to see the reaction of the PCB.
There is no official rule of a mandatory handshake between the teams at the toss and at the end of the match. Recently, the former Indian international umpire Anil Chaudhary also confirmed it on his YouTube channel.
