Team India beat New Zealand to win the T20 World Cup 2026 on March 8 in Ahmedabad. They defended their title and went on to win the match by 96 runs. It was an incredible display of cricket by the entire team as they put up 255 runs in the first innings.

The Men in Blue lost the toss, but captain Suryakumar Yadav was happy with the decision. He mentioned that the team has performed well batting first and rightly so, the team did play well. Abhishek Sharma slammed 52 runs in 21 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes, while Sanju Samson slammed 46-ball 89 runs, including five boundaries and eight sixes.

It was a special innings from Samson as he missed a well-deserved century by 11 runs. New Zealand's batting was absolutely dull as they were bowled out at 159 runs. It wasn't a great day for them as they lost Finn Allen early on. After his wicket, all the rest of the batters fell like a pack of cards.

Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets and became the Player of the Match. He also picked up 14 wickets in the tournament and is the leading wicket-taker.

Feels extremely special: Jasprit Bumrah

India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled an incredible spell against New Zealand. In the first 16 deliveries, he bowled 13 slower, which put the Kiwis on the backfoot. After receiving the POTM award, he went on to express his emotions and how special it was for him to win the trophy once more. Bumrah's impact in the 2024 and 2026 World Cups was the same, and India are surely lucky to have him in the team.

"Feels extremely special because I've played one final in my home venue but couldn't win that one, but today I won. I knew wicket was a flat one so had to use all my experience. Before this tournament I was in that zone where I felt I was trying too hard because I was bowling well but felt I was trying too hard," said Jasprit Bumrah at the press conference.

This tournament I just tried to let the game come to me, and that worked really well. My individual assessment has always been my strength and getting MOTM, at my home ground in a World Cup final, it doesn't get better than that," he added.
