India tour of West Indies, 2023: Sanju Samson is included in the West Indies ODI squad again

In a surprising turn of events, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been given a well-deserved recall to the national team for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Samson’s inclusion in the squad after a strong performance in domestic and franchise cricket.

Samson’s comeback to the ODI team comes after a gap of nearly two years. The 27-year-old last played an ODI match for India in July 2019 against Sri Lanka. Since then, he has been in and out of the squad, primarily due to intense competition in the wicketkeeper-batsman slot.

His recent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket have been exceptional, making a strong case for his selection. Samson displayed his power-hitting abilities and temperament as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He played several crucial innings and showcased his ability to anchor the innings while scoring at a brisk pace.

The selectors were particularly impressed by his consistency and adaptability in different conditions. Samson’s inclusion will add depth to the middle-order and provide valuable backup behind the stumps.

It is worth noting that Samson has already represented India in the shortest format of the game, featuring in numerous T20 internationals. However, this recall to the ODI squad marks an important milestone in his career and reaffirms the selectors’ faith in his abilities.
