Chennai Super Kings (CSK) enter IPL 2024 aiming for a record sixth title, facing the absence of Ambati Rayudu and Ben Stokes. With a modest purse of 1.50 crore INR, CSK anticipates key additions while the legendary MS Dhoni gears up for another IPL season.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the joint-most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), unveiled their list of player retentions and releases on November 26, setting the stage for the IPL 2024 mini-auction scheduled for December 19. The five-time champions bid farewell to eight players, including Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Dwaine Pretorius, K Bhagath Verma, Subhranshu Senapati, Akash Singh, Kyle Jamieson, and Sisanda Magala, while maintaining a substantial purse of 32.10 Crore for the upcoming season.
Despite parting ways with seasoned players, CSK has displayed confidence in nurturing young talent, retaining promising players such as Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Choudhary, and Nishant Sandhu.
In the 2023 season, CSK secured the second spot on the points table during the league stage, boasting eight wins from 14 matches with 17 points. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the team went on to claim their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final.
CSK’s journey in the IPL began in 2008 when they reached the inaugural final but were unable to secure the trophy. However, they went on to achieve back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. The team has since added three more titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023, making them the joint-most successful team alongside Mumbai Indians. CSK has also finished as runners-up five times in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019.
With an impressive purse for the upcoming season, CSK aims to make strategic additions to their squad during the mini-auction, eyeing a shot at their seventh IPL title.
