In a dominant display, the Mumbai Indians (MI) outclassed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a one-sided IPL 2024 match held on Thursday. However, the spotlight was not only on the game but also on the toss preceding it, which stirred up a controversy on social media. Fans took to platforms like X to voice accusations against match referee and former Indian pace bowler Javagal Srinath, alleging that he manipulated the outcome of the toss in favor of the Mumbai Indians. Several users claimed that Srinath tampered with the coin by flipping its sides while picking it up.

The incident creates buzz on the wall of social media

However, a reality check swiftly followed as another user shared a clearer view of the toss, which debunked the tampering allegations. The video revealed that Srinath had not altered the coin’s sides but rather had forgotten the call made by RCB captain Faf du Plessis.

Mumbai Indians secure a convincing win over RCB

Despite the pre-match drama, MI emerged victorious, chasing down RCB’s target of 197 runs with ease, clinching a resounding seven-wicket win in just the 16th over. The hero of the match was Jasprit Bumrah, who wreaked havoc on RCB’s batting lineup, claiming five wickets for 21 runs, earning him the well-deserved player-of-the-match award. MI’s successful chase was fueled by stellar performances from Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who both notched up impressive half-centuries.

Earlier in the day, after MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first, RCB managed to post a competitive total of 196-8 on the scoreboard.

The match not only showcased MI’s dominance but also highlighted the intensity and excitement that the IPL brings to cricket fans worldwide.

Bumrah said that the T20 format “is very harsh for the bowlers”.

“I try to not be a one-trick pony, I have worked on this early in my career. People start to line you up. I want to have different skills. I will never say I wanted to take a five-for. The wicket was sticky and I am very happy with my contribution,” he added.
