Punjab Kings have suffered a big blow before their away match against the struggling Chennai Super Kings, as the Australian star Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the tournament.

IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell ruled out due to fractured finger

The IPL 2014 runners-up Punjab Kings haven't experienced the Playoffs since the 2015 season. They are battling hard to end their decade-long drought in the IPL playoffs. While they are standing in the fifth place in the IPL 2025 points table with 11 points after nine matches before their second meeting of the season against Chennai Super Kings, the franchise has lost Glenn Maxwell. Due to a fractured finger, Maxwell has been ruled out of the tournament. During the toss of the match, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer revealed Maxwell's injury. However, in the toss, PBKS skipper didn't reveal the replacement of Maxwell for the match.

IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell scored one double-digit in six innings

The Australian star Glenn Maxwell was struggling hugely in the IPL 2025. In six innings of the IPL 2025, Maxwell managed to reach a double-digit score only once, as his scores are 0, 30, 1, 3, 7, and 7 runs, respectively. However, the off-spinner also picked up four wickets in this IPL season. However, his IPL commitment has been questioned again this season for his lack of useful outings for his franchise, which is a common show for him in his long IPL career.

Maxwell's place was always in danger, and now, PBKS will officially play without the Australian all-rounder. Punjab Kings still have some good overseas all-rounders, who are Marcus Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai, Aaron Hardie, and Marco Jansen. However, all of them are pace-bowling all-rounders, while Jansen is a bowling all-rounder.

In their last four matches, Punjab Kings lost once after winning back-to-back matches, while their last one against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata had no result due to the rain washout in the second innings, where only one over was bowled after PBKS scored 201/4.
