Gujarat Titans, who are leading the IPL 2025 points table, have worn a lavender kit instead of their regular dark blue and gold kit in the 64th IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants in Ahmedabad. Here, we have revealed the reason for Titans' initiative. 

The IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans have chosen to wear the lavender kit for the match against Lucknow Super Giants to raise awareness about the critical importance of early detection and access to quality care for cancer patients. Also, the franchise is set to distribute thirty thousand lavender flags and ten thousand lavender jerseys among the fans during the match.

It is not the first time we have seen Gujarat Titans in the lavender kit. They have been following this culture since the 2023 season, as they chose one game in every season to wear this special kit to raise this special awareness.

In fact, Titans aren't the first in the IPL to wear a lavender kit. In the IPL 2015, Yuvraj Singh-led Delhi Daredevils (presently known as Delhi Capitals) played with a lavender and red jersey during their home match against Kings XI Punjab. That initiative was taken to show solidarity in the fight against cancer, while it was associated with Yuvraj’s non-profit organisation "YouWeCan Foundation", who work with cancer patients. Moreover, 100 cancer survivors and patients were invited to see the match.

Gujarat Titans on lavender kit

Coming back to Gujarat Titans' latest initiative, the franchise opened up about their motive. The franchise officially stated, "Continuing this novel initiative for the third consecutive year, the Titans aim to raise awareness about the critical importance of early detection and access to quality care for cancer patients. The match against Lucknow Super Giants is going to be a special one as Gujarat Titans plan not only to bat for cancer survivors and patients, but also to unite the fans for the cause by distributing thirty thousand lavender flags and ten thousand lavender jerseys amongst them."

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill spoke about his duty in this as an athlete. Gill said, "As athletes, we recognise the platform we have to influence change. Wearing these lavender jerseys is our way of showing solidarity with cancer warriors and honouring their resilience. We believe that through awareness and education, we can empower individuals to take charge of their health and contribute to a future where cancer is no longer a formidable foe."

Lavender colour is often associated with peace, serenity, grace, and love. It is strongly related to cancer due to lavender's strong usage as a complementary therapy in cancer treatment.
