In IPL 2025 Match 56, Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a nail-biting victory against Mumbai Indians (MI), winning by 3 wickets in a DLS target adjustment with a target of 147 runs in 19 overs as they finished with 147/7. MI scored 155/8 in 20 overs and set a competitive score with the DLS now in favor of the Gujarat Titans as rain altered the game’s dynamics.
Mumbai Indians finished with a respectable total of 155/8 in 20 overs. The top score was by Will Jacks with 53 off 35 balls—good stroke play from him. Suryakumar Yadav contributed an important 35 off 24 balls, and Corbin Bosch played helpful innings to score 27 off 22 balls. At times they appeared to add some momentum with the bat, but rain during MI's innings and tidy bowling from Gujarat held their innings in check. Sai Kishore took 2/34, but Gerald Coetzee (1/10) and Arshad Khan (1/18) from the MI bowlers really scraped by. Just as MI was trying to accelerate during the middle overs, conditioning stopped play & their rhythm was interrupted briefly.
Gujarat Titans looked to chase their rain-adjusted target of 148 in 19 overs and were pushed to the edge in a thrilling but dramatic finish. Shubman Gill batted sensibly to score 43 off 46 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed a handy 30 off 27. The difference in the last few overs appeared to be Sherfane Rutherford, who threw the bat at the ball to score 28 off 15. MI bowlers fought for breakthroughs—Jasprit Bumrah (2/19), Trent Boult (2/22), and Ashwani Kumar (2/28) all took minor breakthroughs, but the rain-adjusted target meant GT had considerably less pressure, and they held their nerves to cross the line off the final delivery, winning by 3 wickets (DLS method).

Shubman Gill (GT Captain & Player of the Match): Gill conceded there was "a little bit of chaos" after the rain break but was pleased with how things turned out. He said the pitch was slow, which made stroke play difficult at times, and described the first half of the innings like a Test match. There were some frustrating moments, particularly when losing four wickets in quick succession, but he ended by stating he was just happy his team got a chance again and made the most of it.
Gerald Coetzee (GT): Coetzee kept it pretty simple: "See it, hit it." He was preparing for yorkers from Deepak Chahar and was surprised by a bouncer. Coetzee noted he loves to celebrate and reiterated the team wasn’t too serious but was very competitive.
Hardik Pandya (MI Captain) Pandya said it was a hard loss but was proud of the way his team fought. He felt they fell short by 20-30 runs and noted the bowlers did their job. However, Pandya admitted their no-balls - including his - hurt them badly. The wet state of the ground and all the rain breaks made it difficult to find any rhythm.
