The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will kick off on March 22, 2025, and end on May 25, 2025. There will be ten teams participating in the tournament, playing across various grounds in India. Similar to other seasons, every team will play home and away games before the playoffs are determined by the top four teams

OPENING MATCHES

March 22, 2025: The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will open the competition against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

March 23, 2025 :A doubleheader has been arranged. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the afternoon at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, in the evening.

Tournament Format

The IPL 2025 will consist of 74 matches, keeping the same format as in earlier years. The league-stage matches will be played by the teams at different home and away grounds. The top four teams in the points table will proceed to the playoffs, which include Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be staged in Hyderabad, whereas Qualifier 2 and the Final will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Major Updateds

A number of teams have instituted significant changes before the new season:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) – The new captain of IPL 2025 is Rajat Patidar.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) – The new captain is Shreyas Iyer, while Ricky Ponting has been inducted as head coach.
