Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is among the teams in IPL 2026 that are reeling from an injury crisis. Nathan Ellis was ruled out for the entire season even before the first match of the edition. Later, multiple key players like Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre, and Ramakrishna Ghosh have also been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League campaign.
Last night, when CSK was tussling for two points against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Jamie Overton was mostly seen on the bench, which raised another injury scare among the CSK fans. Jamie Overton is a seam bowling all-rounder who has gained a fair amount of success for the team so far in the IPL 2026 season, both with bat and ball.
Jamie Overton injured?
To see an impactful player like Overton warming the bench during the match was a threatening sign for the fans. Former Team India opener, now a cricket expert and commentator, Aakash Chopra, also raised the same concern. In his ‘X’ post, Chopra asked, “Any word on Jamie Overton? Is he unavailable to bowl?”
Later on in the match, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad handed the ball to the England international to deliver the 19th over of the first innings, when Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs were well-set on the deck for the Delhi Capitals. It was Overton’s only over in the match, and he delivered successfully, taking Stubbs’ wicket in the death.
Overton came and took an important wicket for CSK vs DC
In the 19th over, the 32-year-old all-rounder offered only 5 runs and took a very important wicket for the Chennai Super Kings. He could have dismissed Sameer Rizvi as well if he or Gaikwad had not dropped the easy catch. Because of miscommunication, neither Gaikwad nor Overton made the final call for the catch, and the ball landed in between the two CSK players.

However, that missed chance did not dent the away team’s blueprint at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, as the Super Kings secured another win, thanks to Sanju Samson’s well-composed 87-run knock off 52 balls. Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi by 8 wickets and 15 balls to spare.
No injury threat for Overton
Later, it is reported that Jamie Overton is absolutely fit and fine, and he has no injury concerns. Keeping on the bench for most of the time during the match might be a tactical move organized by the CSK team management.
During the presentation ceremony, there were no words on Overton’s possible injury as well. With the 5th win in 10 games, the Yellow brigade is holding the sixth spot with a net run rate of +0.151. On May 10, they will face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Chepauk, another must-win match for the Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co.
